“So, when’s your icebreaker speech?”
It had been a few weeks since I had joined Toastmasters. During the meeting, one evening, one of the members inquired me out of eagerness.
I smiled and boldly responded, “Very soon!”
BUT beneath that fearless smile, I was masking my fear. The fear that swiftly leads to an increased heartbeat, cold hands, shaking of my legs, clouding my general thoughts, and whatnot. This fear that erupts the moment I visualize myself speaking in front of the audience. Thinking about my speech, the title, content, delivery was a distant thought for me. All I could think of was my impatience and anxiety.
